With a closer look at any industry, most people will find that small businesses and entrepreneurs can be found at their core. These groups or individuals not only contribute immensely to the overall wealth of the United States, but they also employ large numbers of Americans. You have likely contributed to that impressive growth if you are reading this. So thank you for your dedication!

Individuals who transition to a full-time, self-employed status often gain more independence, feel more fulfilled with their career, and gain new motivation to work. The United States is still considered the best place globally to be your own boss and start something new; however, this route isn’t without its risks, as roughly 20% of small businesses fail within the first year. Fortunately, the news isn’t all grim.

Entrepreneur Statistics You Need to Know in 2022

The Great Resignation of 2021 created a promising startup environment. With such impressive growth and a taste of what was possible, many began their own entrepreneurship journey and left the traditional 9-to-5 work life behind. Many that have chosen this path have found a better work/life balance and are now generating more income. But what does that actually look like in 2022?

90% of new American billionaires were self-made.

According to Forbes, approximately 90% of new American billionaires built their wealth amid the Covid-19 pandemic. A record high of 493 billionaires was added to the annual Forbes’ Richest People in 2021 list, of which 88 were Americans. These numbers are encouraging to many entrepreneurs since they show certain industries can continue to grow during economic turmoil.

Roughly 582 million entrepreneurs exist worldwide

If you are an entrepreneur, you are in good company since an estimated 582 million exist globally, according to The Hill. While this is a significant jump from the previous estimates, the focus of entrepreneurs continues to help industries innovate and grow. Analyzing entrepreneurship stats can also help determine emerging benefits and flaws that can be adopted industry-wide.

The United States has a Global Entrepreneurship Index of 83.6

The Global Entrepreneurship Index (GEI) provides a numerical representation of the climate a country has created to develop small businesses. Numerous factors are considered to provide a comprehensive overview of the situation to determine this number. With a score of 83.6, the United States is first globally, followed by Switzerland, Canada, the UK, and Australia, respectively.
